72 Courtyard is a collection of very high level bars, restaurants and cafes. Built over two levels around a central plaza, each venue has been handpicked from around the world for being at the top of their respective game. Throw in one of Bangkok’s best techno clubs and you have a full night out wrapped up in one purpose built space. The brutalist concrete façade towering above Thonglor has a hint of Soviet Russia but inside 72 Courtyard things are far brighter and, crucially, greener. The whole place is overflowing of trees and plants which minimizes the hectic street scene outside. It is this combination of an urban escape in a convenient location that assures 72 Courtyard is bustling with Bangkok’s trendy set most evenings. It is very important to note that these are not franchises bought by Thai investors for the prestige of a name; each international brand brought in has sent their own team to set up and run the venue so you can be assured that the fusion tapas at Toro is exactly what you would get in New York, or the sala bao steamed buns from Little Bao are identical to the Hong Kong version. This does come with a price, but the intended market for these types of world delicacies won’t balk at 400 baht Mescal cocktails as its far cheaper than the long-haul flight it would have cost previously to enjoy these exclusive experiences.
Beer Belly Laid out like a cool German beerhall, Beer Belly is the most casual venue in 72 Courtyard. Twenty draft beers are available, which come in a range of sizes, from a 150ml sampling-style glass right up to a 5l mega-tower, along with many more bottled European beers. There’s a live acoustic band playing on Wednesday through Saturday from 20:00 until 23:00, with loads of board games, pool, and beer pong to keep groups entertained. The whitewashed brick walls, graffiti murals, 10 personal communal tables and street food style nibbles – the larb fries are the very definition of fusion and taste great – make Beer Belly the best place to chill out and sink a few beers in 72 Courtyard.

Evil Man Blues Imagine a 1950s railway carriage playing Nu-jazz, funk and soul, and serving excellent cocktails – you will be somewhere close to the experience at Evil Man Blues cocktail bar. Narrow and dimly lit, there are spaces up at the bar for conversing with the team of mixologists or you can claim a booth if you are looking for a more secluded drink. It is the perfect spot to end a date if you’re in the mood for something boozy and cool. The liquors served here are handpicked from across the world and are very high-end. This shows in the price, with signature creations coming in around the 400 baht mark. The head mixologist, Liam Baer, has been flown in from American via Hong Kong, bringing with him a long list of signature concoctions including the bizarrely named Monkey Gone to Heaven, a potent, earthy gin based cocktail with banana liquor in a smoke-infused brandy glass and Self(ie)-Adored which is a modern take on a vodka flip, made with bespoke bison grass vodka, elderflower liqueur, raspberry and an egg white top, which also comes with your very own Polaroid pegged to the rim. Every night there is a DJ playing a variety of jazzy tunes at Evil Man Blues, and they recently started live jazz from Wednesday to Saturday. Finger food is available, such as chicken wings and burgers.

Touche Hombre Originally hailing from Melbourne, Australia, Touche Hombre Bangkok is a taqueria and cocktail bar playing old-skool hip hop. The food is created by the accomplished team from Lady Brett, but stays true to genuine Mexican flavours. Everything is made in-house to ensure authenticity and the difference in flavour is clear when compared to many of the bland Tex-Mex pretenders currently found in Bangkok. From behind the bar, the level of mescal and tequila cocktails are a cut above anything else in Bangkok too, with classic cocktails spruced up and given the Latino touch. The head barman from UNCLE is tending to the cocktails currently so you’re in good hands. The second floor of Touche Hombre Bangkok is a really special space, with a glitter ball and huge dragon mural giving the space a bar-restaurant-club crossover appeal.
